On Sunday members of the group went on a cycle ride to visit the new hydroelectric scheme on the River Taff at Radyr Weir.
Cardiff County council have installed two Archimedean Screw generators at the weir that can produce a maximum of 391kW, enough electricity to power 550 homes. Each turbine is 4 meters in diameter and 10 meters in length.
This type of turbines don't harm fish. A new fish pass was also built as part of the scheme allowing salmon to reach their spawning grounds upstream.
There is a video showing the building of the scheme.
